As
announced last month, the first event for the second season of Project 30 was an extravaganza featuring FIDE Master Steve Giddins.
The venue was The Buffs Social Club, which
already has Project 30 form.
Steve started with a simultaneous display against a whole range of Teesside club players, juniors and special guests from elsewhere before delivering an excellent lecture on chess studies and problems. The day's chess events concluded with a very enjoyable and instructive Question and Answer session.
Steve lost only one of his 15 games - to Matt Jackman.

Steve then joined four of us for a splendid post-chess meal at Borge in Stockton for an evening that was, it must be said, not entirely devoid of puns.

As a tired trio then made their way to their respective beds, Kevin Winter and I went off in such of the finest cultural night delights Stockton had to offer. We found it in the form of this:

We will post another gallery and present moments for the entertaining simultaneous display over the course of the next few days.
For now, I must say a very big thank you to Steve for all of his hard work and excellent company and to all of the players who supported this very special event.
In fact we have already had two events for Project 30 as the morning after the event covered above Kevin Winter I contested a four-game Blitz Chess match at Marsh Towers.
More events will be announced soon, so stay tuned.
