Santana
Metro Radio Arena
Newcastle
3.10.2010
More than two years have gone by since I saw Santana in Manchester (see here). This time his tour took him a little closer to home so I decided to go and see him again.
It was a very good concert. Everything seemed to be turned up to 11! The drums made the floor shake. Here's a few photos from an excellent evening of entertainment.
Carlos Santana
Benny Rietveld
The seating arrangement on the main floor isn't the best; the seats are not layered and the tallest people obviously have priority booking rights. Luckily, the big screen ensured a good view for all.
The set list included a couple of well-known covers:
Everybody's Everything
One would be forgiven for thinking that Dave K. Matthews had turned up a month too early for the forthcoming Newcastle Madness concert.
Singing Winds/Crying Beat
Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen
Oye Como Va
Maria Maria
Foo Foo
Corazon Espinado
Jingo
Samba Pa Ti
Batuka/No One To Depend On
Taboo/Whole Lot Of Love
God Is Love/Right On
Evil Ways/A Love Supreme
Sunshine Of Your Love
Smooth/Dame Tu Amor
Encore:
Woodstock Chant
Soul Sacrifice
Bridegroom/Into The Night
Love, Peace and Happiness/Freedom
The spotlights were operated by a small bunch of people who could be seen climbing bravely up a very small rope ladder at the start of the show.
One would be forgiven for thinking that Dave K. Matthews had turned up a month too early for the forthcoming Newcastle Madness concert.
Cindy Blackman - the future Mrs Santana - made a guest appearance on drums and produced a lengthy solo.
I was there too. Yes the view of the stage was very poor as I was at the back but at least we had the big screen.
ReplyDeleteWe turned up about 15 mins before the time on our ticket but he was alrady playing Black Magic Woman. Dont understnd this.
Excellent concet and thanks for the pics. The front row were so lucky. Really enjoyed it and thought the acoustics were excellent. Great version of Whole Lotta Love.
